How to wear

• When it first appeared some 80 years ago, the double monkstrap was a sports shoe for weekend wear – definitely not to be worn with a suit. But times have changed.
• The William works very nicely for an executive look with an unstructured suit or flannel. Away from the office, the William also looks splendid paired with white five-pocket pants. How about with jeans? It’s appealing to imagine a pair of well-worn – or even tattered – jeans above a pair of double monks, but as with everything, you need to give it a try.
• On a last note, does it matter if the buckles on your William match the buckle on your belt? That’s your prerogative. It doesn’t make you neurotic, just fastidious.
